Climate Central has developed the next generation of its Surging Seas web tool and analysis to provide local regions and policy makers with the tailored local information needed to assess and respond to the risks of sea level rise and coastal flooding. The Risk Finder tool incorporates the latest, high-resolution, high-accuracy lidar elevation data supplied by NOAA and assesses exposure of 100+ infrastructure and other elements—from airports to road miles, from schools to hospitals to wastewater treatment plants. This multi-part web tool allows users to evaluate vulnerability and provides local sea level rise and flood risk projections, searchable interactive maps, "fast look" community reports, data downloads, and exposure by zip code, legislative districts, agency districts, planning districts, and other administrative units. .
Dr. Ben Strauss will provide an overview of the main features and methods of Climate Central's Surging Seas Risk Finder and answer questions in a Q & A afterward.
Climate Central is a non-profit organization – with no policy agenda or advocacy role – with offices in Princeton, NJ, and New York, NY, dedicated to studying and communicating the impacts of climate change, locally and nationally.
